Delhi: Mumbai’s young batsman Ayush Mhatre created a new history by playing a brilliant innings in a Vijay Hazare Trophy match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. At the age of 17 years and 168 days, Mhatre became the youngest batsman to score 150 or more runs in List A cricket. Earlier this record was in the name of Yashasvi Jaiswal, who achieved this feat against Jharkhand in 2019 at the age of 17 years and 291 days.

Mhatre played a stormy innings

Mhatre played a tremendous inning of 181 runs while playing for Mumbai against Nagaland. His innings helped Mumbai set a big target of 404 runs. He made an opening partnership of 156 runs with Angkrish Raghuvanshi. After this he made a partnership of 50 runs with Siddhesh Lad. Mhatre hit 15 fours and 11 sixes in his innings.

Didn’t sell in IPL, but Dhoni was impressed

Although Mhatre did not find any buyer in this year’s IPL auction, the talent scouts of MS Dhoni and Chennai Super Kings were quite impressed with him. According to a report in Times of India, CSK had called Mhatre for trials before the auction in Jeddah.

CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan had requested the Mumbai Cricket Association to allow Mhatre to give trials at the Navalur ground in Chennai. His performance in Ranji Trophy had caught everyone’s attention.

Despite his brilliant performance of 176 runs in five innings at an average of 44 in the Under-19 Asia Cup, and playing an important role in taking India to the final, he did not find any buyer in the auction.
