Delhi: Mumbai’s 17 -year -old opener Ayush Mhatre has been called by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for a trial among the IPL, which intensified the speculation that he can be included in the team in IPL 2025. However, he can only enter the team as a replacement in a state of injury or unavailability of a player.

Mhatre was currently in Rajkot at the Zonal Camp of BCCI’s National Cricket Academy (NCA), from where he reached Chennai for trial. Confirming the news, CSK managing director and CEO Kashi Vishwanathan said, “Yes, we have called him for trial. Our talent scouts are keeping an eye on him and they are impressed.” However, he also clarified that there is no injured player in the team and this is just a trial.

CSK also called Mhatre for trial in November 2024, when the IPL auction was about to take place. MS Dhoni was also very happy with his batting during the trial. However, at that time he was not bought by any team in the auction.
Ayush Mhatre is in great form
Mhatre has performed brilliantly for Mumbai in the 2024-25 season. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he scored 458 runs in seven matches at an average of 65.42, including two centuries and a half -century. In the Ranji Trophy too, he scored 471 runs in eight matches at an average of 33.64, including two centuries and a half -century. He played a brilliant innings of 176 runs against Maharashtra.
