On this day, the Indian team on England soil surprised the cricket world and won the title of ICC World Cup for the first time. The Indian bowlers performed tremendously and piled the West Indies for 140 runs in just 52 overs. Viv Richards scored the highest 33 runs, but Madan Lal gave a big relief to India by finishing his innings. For India, Madan Lal and Mohinder Amarnath took 3-3 wickets, while Balwinder Sandhu took 2, and Kapil Dev and Roger Binny took 1-1 wickets.

Mohinder Amarnath not only played a useful innings with the bat, but also wondered with the ball and dismissed important batsmen like Jeff Dujon and Malcolm Marshal. He was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ for his all -round performance.
