Delhi: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have declared Ajinkya Rahane as their new captain for IPL 2025. While the team’s purchased player Venkatesh Iyer, who was bought for ₹ 23.75 crore, expressed his desire for captaincy, the KKR management has expressed confidence in experienced Rahane. However, Iyer has been made the vice -captain and will be designed for the role of the captaincy.
Ajinkya Rahane’s statement
Rahane expressed happiness over becoming a captain, saying, “It is an honor for me that I have been given the captaincy of KKR, which is one of the most successful franchise of IPL. I think our team is very strong and balanced. I accept this challenge together with everyone and will try to defend our championship. “

KKR CEO statement
KKR CEO Venki Mysore also expressed his happiness over Rahane’s captaincy, saying, “We are happy that we have found a player like Ajinkya Rahane, who will bring his experience and maturity as captain.” Along with this, Venkatesh Iyer has been an important player for KKR and he also has many qualifications of captaincy. We are confident that these two together will protect our championship. “
Rahane’s captaincy record
Rahane was associated with KKR in a base price of ₹ 1.5 crore in the mega auction of IPL 2025. This is not the first time Rahane has got a chance to captain it. From IPL 2018 to 2019, he captained Rajasthan Royals (RR). During this time, RR won 9 out of 24 matches under Rahane’s captaincy, but he could not make it to the playoffs.
