Delhi: England’s 26-year-old star batsman Harry Brook has said that he will now take less participation in Global T20 franchise cricket, so that England’s ODI and T20 team captaincy can balance the responsibility of playing in all three formats. This young batter of Yorkshire has been appointed as the newly limited overs captain of England in place of Jose Butler.
Brook is also an important member of the England Test team. England have to play a total of 11 Tests including Ashes till January, besides playing 12 ODIs and 15 T20 matches for the preparations for the T20 World Cup to be held in February next year.
For this reason, he left a deal of Rs 6.25 crore with Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this year, so that he could play for England by refreshed. Last year too, due to the death of his grandmother, he withdrew his name from the IPL.
However, now due to the new rules, Brook will not be able to play in the IPL till 2027, but he said that he has no regrets. In his first interview on the website of England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), he said, “There is a lot of cricket in the coming times. The decision to leave the IPL was right for me.”
He further said, “It is not yet decided how many franchise cricket I will play, but my priority is to play for England and play more and more matches.”
Brook will now start his captaincy with the first ODI against West Indies on 29 May in Edgbaston. He told that his thinking with coach Brendon McCullum is exactly the same and he will move forward with the thinking of playing aggressive cricket.
Brook said, “We want to play aggressive and completely dedicated in every match. Big tournaments are coming, but we have to see every match one by one and play competitive cricket.”
