Delhi: The dates of Pakistan Super League (PSL) and Indian Premier League (IPL) are colliding this time, but Pakistan fast bowler Hasan Ali has expressed a shocking statement that if the players perform well, the audience and fans will leave the IPL and start watching PSL. PSL, usually to be held in February-March, was shifted to the April-May window this time due to Pakistan’s international program, causing its direct conflict from the 18th edition of the IPL.
Although the IPL is considered to be the world’s largest and most popular T20 league, Hassan believes that if the players in PSL perform a bang, the audience will give priority to PSL.
Hasan told reporters, “Viewers watch the tournament where there is good cricket and entertainment. If we play well in PSL, people will leave the IPL and see us,” Hasan’s statement was quoted by Geo News before the inauguration of PSL on Friday.
Hasan Ali, who is going to represent Karachi Kings in the 10th edition of PSL, also spoke on Pakistan’s recent poor performance in international cricket.
Pakistan, led by Mohammad Rizwan, tried to defend the title in the Champions Trophy, but was out in the group stage due to two consecutive defeats from India and New Zealand. After this disappointing performance, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) changed the attitude and formed a new team keeping in mind the T20 World Cup 2026 and ODI World Cup 2027.
A few days after the Champions Trophy, Pakistan visited New Zealand, which included five T20s and three ODIs. In the T20 series, where some new faces got a chance, experienced players were also relied upon. However, the result was disappointing and Pakistan suffered a 4–1 defeat.
Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam returned in the ODI series, who did not play in the T20 series. However, his presence also could not change the fate of Pakistan and New Zealand made a clean sweep 3–0,
Hasan Ali said, “When the national team does not perform well, it also affects the franchise leagues, PSL is also not untouched by this. But when Pakistan does good, then the popularity of PSL also increases.”
He further said, “The current results are not good, but both the team and the management have new faces, who need time. The players know where they made a mistake and now they have to improve.”
