‘Will I play the next match?’ DC coach shared the conversation with Karun Nair

Delhi: Delhi Capitals (DC) star batsman Karun Nair is currently in great form. After scoring a lot of runs in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and Ranji Trophy, now he has started showing his flame in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. After three years, Karun Nair has returned to the IPL. He last played IPL in 2022. This time Delhi Capitals bought him in the December mega auction of December last year for his base price ₹ 50 lakh. This decision was taken only in view of his great performance in domestic cricket.

Karun Nair makes a great comeback

At first it seemed that Nair would not get much opportunities this season. But, he did something on the field that the team could not ignore him. Karun Nair scored a bang of 89 runs chasing a target of 205 against Mumbai Indians (Mi). He would have almost won the match, but his dismissal in the last over and then three consecutive runs out of Delhi’s expectations. However, Nair definitely impressed the team management with his batting.

After the match, Hemang Badani, assistant coach of Delhi Capitals, praised him in the dressing room. He told, “This boy has not played IPL for the last three years. This year, he has scored 9 centuries in first class cricket. He used to ask me continuously, ‘Sir, when will I get a chance? Will I get the next match?’ He used to ask for more batting time in the nets and he was very hungry to play.

Badani finally said, “The way Karun batted, understood the match, targeted the bowlers, he was fantastic. Karun Nair, who returned after three years, scored an innings of 89 runs, did a great job.”

Karun Nair’s career

Karun Nair’s career has been full of ups and downs. Virender Sehwag, who hit triple century for India, is the second player Karun. But despite this, he has been out of Team India for a long time. His last Test match was 8 years ago. When he tweeted ‘Cricket, give me another chance’, he touched the heart of every fan.

When the selection for Team India was to be held in January, the selector Ajit Agarkar told that Karun’s name definitely came in the discussion, but at the moment he did not get a chance. Now at the age of 33, it is difficult to say whether he will be able to play again for India. But the way he has performed in Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare and now in IPL, he is definitely drawing the attention of the selectors again.
