Delhi: In a very exciting match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) lost by 16 runs to Punjab Kings (PBKs). When Ajinkya Rahane and Angrish Raghuvanshi were batting, KKR’s score was 62/2 and only 50 runs were needed to win, that too in 75 balls. But, what happened after this, he surprised everyone.
The entire Kolkata team was reduced to just 95 runs. The last 8 wickets fell within just 33 runs. This IPL became the smallest total in history, which was successfully defended by a team.
Rahane’s DRS not taking turning point
The turn of the match came when Ajinkya Rahane was given LBW out off Yuzvendra Chahal. He did not take DRS while in replays the ball was going out of the off stump. The direction of the match changed as soon as he was out. Rahane later admitted that this was his fault and he did not take a review due to lack of clear indication from the batter partner.
Rahane and Shreyas’s conversation viral
After the match, a fun moment between Rahane and Punjab captain Shreyas Iyer was captured on camera. Both the players were talking in Marathi and Rahane said, “Kay wasteful Batting Kelly Na Amhi.” (How bad we did not bat). This video became increasingly viral on social media.

Rahane took responsibility for defeat
Rahane took full responsibility of defeat in the press conference after the match. He said, “We performed very poorly as a batting unit. The bowling was very good, but the batting was negligent. I was out to be out.”
This defeat of KKR can make the path of their playoffs difficult. The team will now have to perform better in the remaining matches.
