Delhi: A strange incident caught everyone’s attention in the match played between the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Wankhede Stadium between Mumbai Indians (Mi) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Wankhede Stadium on 17 April. During the match, a no-ball created a controversy, which was given not by the bowler’s mistake, but due to the technical lapse of the wicketkeeper.
What is the matter?
This whole matter is related to Mumbai batsman Ryan Recllet. Chasing a target of 163 runs, when Ricelton was batting for 21 runs, he was given a dismissal in the seventh over by Zishan Ansari. Ricelton was returning to the pavilion when the third umpire intervened and overturned the verdict.
The third umpire found that Sunrisers Hyderabad wicketkeeper Henrich Klassen’s gloves were ahead of the stumps line at the time of throwing balls. According to the rules, it is considered technically wrong and in such a situation the ball is called a no-ball.
Varun Chakraborty raised questions
Varun Chakraborty, spinner of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), has expressed his displeasure over this decision. He says that such technical rules go against the ‘Spirit’ of the game. He raised the question, “If the keeper gloves of the keeper come in front of the stump, then it should be considered a dead ball and there should be a warning for the keeper so that he does not do it again !!! No-ball and free hit !! The bowler did what the bowler did ???? I am thinking loudly !! What do you all think ???”

Many fans and former players also did not agree with this decision. He believes that this decision spoiled SRH’s rhythm and an important wicket was also snatched away.
What does the rule say?
Under the Rule 27.3 of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), the wicketkeeper has to stay completely behind the stumps at the time of delivery of the bowler. If he comes forward before the ball is thrown, it is considered a violation of the rule and that ball is declared a no-ball.
However, Ricelton could not stand at the crease for a long time and was dismissed by Harshal Patel by scoring 31 runs in the next over. However, the incident of his first ‘not out’ has launched a big debate between fans and cricket experts.
