Delhi: Mumbai Indians (Mi) captain Hardik Pandya said that the Indian Premier League (IPL) was never worried in the team about the form of star batsman Rohit Sharma in 2025. At the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, Mumbai defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 9 wickets, and Rohit was adjudged Player of the Match in this match.
Sharma scored an unbeaten 76* runs in just 45 balls, including 6 fours and 5 sixes. He played an unbeaten partnership of 114 runs in collaboration with Suryakumar Yadav (68)* and chasing the target, Mumbai scored 177 runs with 26 balls remaining. Suryakumar Yadav hit the winning six of Mathisha Pathirana.
Rohit, who scored only 82 runs in the first 6 matches in IPL 2025, made a great comeback in this match.
After the match, Hardik said, “We were never worried about Rohit’s form. We knew that when he walked, the team in front would be out of the match. Suryakumar played him brilliantly.”
Mumbai, while bowling first, stopped Chennai at 176/5 and then achieved the target very easily. After the victory, Hardik told how the team played cricket.
Pandya said, “Everyone is taking responsibility. We are standing on basic things. We are not trying to play magical cricket, but are playing simple cricket. We knew that they are behind and we kept the pressure.”
He further said, “The fast bowlers gave some runs, but we knew that the score of 175 was a little lower. We were close to victory, just on a few balls we needed to take the right decisions, which is happening now.”
Now the next match of Mumbai Indians will be held on Wednesday, 23 April against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), captained by Pat Cummins at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
