Delhi: Lucknow Supergiants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant faced criticism when he came to bat at number seven in the match against Delhi Capitals (DC). Pant usually bat in the top order. But, in this match, he first sent some batsmen and used Ayush Badoni as an impact player, as he had done against Rajasthan Royals in the last match.
When Pant came to bat, there was only one over left. He played only two balls, the first ball was vacant and he was out on the second ball. This was the third time in the IPL when Pant came to bat at the number seven or below. He did this after about 9 years. The tape was tied on his hand, due to which there was a possibility of injury. But, at the time of the toss against Delhi Capitals, Pant had told that his hand is absolutely fine.
What did Rishabh Pant say after the match?
After the match, Pant himself told why he came to bat below. He said, “We had a plan to take advantage of the wicket. So first sent Samad. Then Miller came, but we got stuck on the wicket. Going forward we have to understand what our best playing XI is.”
Pant also talked about bringing fast bowler Mayank Yadav back into the team. He said, “We are trying to give Ayush an impact player to give Mayank a chance, so that he can play some matches in the beginning. He has just returned from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and we are trying to fit him.”
Talking about the team’s defeat, Pant said, “We are able to score 20 runs. The toss is very important in Lucknow. Whatever team bowling first, we get help from the pitch. We are not able to stand on the pitch and could not score. The wicket gets better in the second innings, this is here. But we are not making excuses.
