Delhi: Following a legal letter sent by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the makers of the popular Australian podcast ‘The Grade Cricketer’ have removed all their videos related to the Indian Premier League (IPL) from their social media platforms. Sam Perry and Ian Higgins, who hosts ‘The Grade Cricketer’ podcast, received this legal notice from BCCI and IPL over the weekend.
In a recent episode of Podcast, Perry said, “You might have seen that all our videos related to this year’s tournament have been removed from YouTube, YouTube shorts, Facebook, Instagram and X (East Twitter).”
He further clarified, “We have taken this action voluntarily. No direct steps were taken against us. We received a legal letter on Saturday evening (in Australian time), in which some aspects of our content were objected to. For this reason we decided to remove this video.”
According to the ‘Sydney Morning Herald’ report, the legal notice alleged that some photographic shots of the IPL were used in the video of ‘Grade Cricketer’, which the BCCI considered a commercial use, not only as an editorial use.
It is worth noting that in the IPL media advisory, clear instructions have been given that video and audio content related to press conference can be used only for editorial purposes. They are not allowed to share on social media platforms like YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and X.
