ED calls ex-India captain for irregularities in cricket: accused.

Delhi: The troubles of Team India’s former veteran batsman and captain Mohammad Azharuddin have increased as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned him in a money laundering case. Azharuddin has been accused of irregularities in the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA).

He has been called for investigation in this matter. This action has been taken by ED as part of the investigation into financial irregularities, in which Azharuddin’s name has come up.

Mohammad Azharuddin was elected President of Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) in September 2019, but he had to step down from the post in June 2021. He was accused of misappropriation of funds, due to which action was taken. ED had registered a case of money laundering against HCA officials. ED raided 9 places in Telangana and recovered many important documents and digital devices, which can be helpful in the investigation of this case.

Scam in Hyderabad Cricket Association

According to the Enforcement Directorate, Hyderabad Cricket Association officials committed financial irregularities in the construction of Rajiv Gandhi Cricket Stadium. He caused a loss of crores of rupees to the association by giving contracts to private companies at high rates. ED has registered three FIRs in this case and the investigation of the case is going on. The officials have been accused of scam in the stadium construction, due to which the association’s funds were misused.

Cricketer-turned-politician Mohammad Azharuddin was elected MP from Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh on Congress ticket in 2009. He started his new innings by entering politics. However, he contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Rajasthan, but had to face defeat.
