Delhi: Team India coach Gautam Gambhir has broken his silence regarding the Test career of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. He clearly said that as long as both the players are doing well, there is no question of excluding them from the team. He made this statement at ABP News’s ‘India at 2047’ summit.
Gambhir said, “As long as they (Rohit and Virat) are performing, one should remain part of the team. The beginning and end of the career should be of the player.”
“Nobody can decide”
Gambhir said that when any player should retire, this decision can neither coach, nor selector nor BCCI. He jokingly said, “If a player is playing well even at the age of 40, why can’t he play till 45?”
Permanent game was shown in Champions Trophy
Gambhir also mentioned the Champions Trophy, praising Virat and Rohit’s performance. He said, “And when I talk about his performance, the whole world has seen how he showed the game in CT (Champions Trophy).”
“Coach’s job is to prepare the team”
When Gambhir was questioned on the selection for the tour of England, he clearly said that the selection of the team is not the work of the coach. He said, “The work of the coach is to field 11 players. It is the job of the selectors to select the team. The coach that I was earlier was also not the selectors and I am not either.”
Team India is preparing for England tour
India is going on a tour of England in June, where the series of 5 Test matches will be played. The first match will start from June 20. Now the thing to see will be whether Rohit and Virat become part of this important tour or not.
