Delhi: IPL 2025 has been suddenly stopped indefinitely. This decision has been taken in view of the increasing border tension between India and Pakistan. On Thursday, the match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) in Dharamshala had to be stopped in the middle, when an air red alert was issued in the nearby areas Jammu and Pathankot. Since then, there was uncertainty about the tournament.
Safety priority
The BCCI decided not to pursue the tournament keeping in mind the safety of the players, officials and spectators. So far, 12 league matches and 4 playoff matches in the tournament, including the final, were yet to be played.
The situation is not clear regarding the new date
No official announcement has been made when the tournament will be resumed so far. However, BCCI is looking for a new window, in which the remaining matches can be completed. This will be possible only when the situation on the border becomes normal.
Organization may be held in August-September
According to the news, August-September time may be a possible option, but it can affect India’s Bangladesh tour and Asia Cup. The Indian team’s tour of England is already decided in June and July, so it is difficult to resume the tournament before that.
Tournament may be organized abroad
This is not the first time that the IPL is stopped in the middle. In 2021 too, this has happened due to Kovid and then the tournament was completed in UAE. This time too, BCCI can consider tournaments in safe and neutral places like UAE or South Africa.
Availability of players became a challenge
If the tournament is conducted abroad, then due to international schedule, the availability of foreign players and the consent of other cricket boards will be necessary. The international cricket calendar is already very busy, so that the BCCI will have to take care of many things while planning.
