Delhi: Arun Jaitley Stadium of Delhi came in big news on Friday morning when Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) received an anonymous email. In this mail, the stadium has been threatened with bombing. This is the same ground where Delhi Capitals (DC) plays their home matches. Delhi Capitals were to play the Indian Premier League (IPL) match against the Gujarat Titans (GT) on 11 May, but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to stop the entire tournament for a week.
DDCA threatened a mail
According to the Times of India, a big DDCA official has confirmed the threat. The official said that as soon as the email is received, its information has been given to the Delhi Police. He said, “Yes, we got a threatening mail this morning. We immediately sent it to the police and they have become active. The police have also inspected the stadium some time ago.”
It was written in this mail that Pakistan’s loyal sleeper cells are present in different parts of India and will be activated under ‘Operation Sindoor’. BCCI also announced to stop the IPL on Friday. The board said that this decision has been taken due to increasing security concerns in the country. Earlier, after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India had taken military action and since then the possibility of danger had increased.
BCCI secretary made a statement on the future of IPL
BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia said, “The board has decided to postpon the remaining IPL matches for a week. In this difficult time, BCCI stands with the country. We express our solidarity with the Government of India, our soldiers and countrymen.”
Earlier there was news that the tournament will be stopped indefinitely, but now it has been said that information about new dates will be given soon. Saikia said that after reviewing the situation, the rest of the matches will be planned. The IPL final was to be held in Kolkata on 25 May and it is still being tried to conduct the remaining 16 matches (12 leagues and 4 knockouts) at the right time. It is also discussed that if the Asia Cup to be held in September, then IPL matches can be done in the same window.
