Delhi: Madan Lal, former India’s cricketer and member of the 1983 World Cup winning team, has suggested that Jaspreet Bumrah should be handed over the captaincy of the Indian Test team. He believes that if Bumrah is fit and available, he is the most suitable option of this responsibility.

India’s great victory under Bumrah’s captaincy

Bumrah captained the team in 2022 in the Birmingham Test against England and two matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy of 2024–25. Under his leadership, India won the first Test against Australia in November by 295 runs, which is India’s biggest win on the Australian land.

After this, he also captained the New Year Test in Sydney, in which Rohit Sharma took rest.

Bumrah’s performance as captain

Bumrah has taken 15 wickets in 3 Tests so far as captain. In the first innings of the Perth Test, he performed brilliantly with 5 wickets in 18 overs. The continuity and aggression in his bowling makes him a strong leader.

The only condition was told to fitness

Madan Lal said, “If Bumrah is fit and available to the team, then he is the first contender to captaincy. Fitness is definitely a challenge, but he has full potential to lead the team.”

Reaction to Rohit Sharma’s retirement

On May 7, 38 -year -old Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Test cricket. Madan Lal also spoke on his decision. He said, “When such big players come in the team, their selection is decided. Yes, the recent form may not have been good, but the decision of retirement must have been taken only after full thought.”

Next Test Series against England

Now the Indian team will play the next match against England. This series of five Test matches will start from June 20 at the headingley ground in Leeds.
