Delhi: Two Indian cricket veterans, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have recently announced retirement from Test cricket, so that they can pull their career a little longer and get a chance to play in the ODI World Cup in 2027.

While Rohit mentioned his availability in ODI cricket in his post, Virat did not say anything about this in his statement released on Monday.

On the other hand, former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar reacted a big reaction to the future of both the legendary players. He said that he does not think that Virat and Rohit will be part of the next ODI World Cup to be held in South Africa in 2027.

Gavaskar told Sports Today, “They have performed brilliantly in this format. Now the selection committee must be planning ahead keeping in mind the 2027 World Cup. They will wonder if both of them can be a part of the team till then? Will they be able to contribute the same as till now? This will be in the minds of the selectors.

When Gavaskar was asked if Rohit and Virat would play the 2027 World Cup, they replied, “No, I don’t think they will play. I am saying it honestly.”

He further said, “Yes, if in the next one or two years, they come in tremendous form and start scoring a century on a century, then even God cannot exclude him from the team.”

Significantly, under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, India played the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup, where they had to face defeat against Australia.
