Delhi: Team India veteran batsman Virat Kohli has announced to retire from Test cricket on Monday. Former Indian team captain Sunil Gavaskar has praised him after Virat’s retirement. Gavaskar said that Kohli has a very profound impact on Indian cricket and now it will not be easy to replace a batsman like him at number 4.

Kohli said goodbye to Test cricket on 12 May 2025, just before that India has to play a five -Test series against England, which is to start from June 20.

What did Gavaskar say on Virat’s retirement?

In a conversation with Sports, Gavaskar said, “Absolutely, Virat Kohli has been a very big presence on the field. He is a veteran in terms of scoring runs. Whether it is Test, ODI or T20, his performance in every format has been amazing. Since he has made his debut, whatever he has made for India is amazing.”

The East Indian captain further admitted that it would not be so easy for a player to replace Kohli. He said, “His shoes are very big, which will be difficult to fill. It will not happen that one player will come and immediately make that place his own. Just as many players came to number 4 after Sachin Tendulkar, but no one could become permanent, then Kohli made that place his own. Perhaps we will still have to wait a little to a new player.”

Kohli’s test career

36 -year -old Vurat played 123 matches for India in his Test career. During this, he scored 9,230 runs in 210 innings. His average was 46.85 and scored 30 centuries and 31 half -centuries. Above him is only Sachin Tendulkar (15,921 runs), Rahul Dravid (13,265 runs) and Sunil Gavaskar (10,122 runs).
