Delhi: After the retirement of Indian veterans Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, there were reports that Indian fast bowler Mohammad Shami is also going to announce his retirement. However, Shami has dismissed the news of retirement from Test cricket outright. In his recent Instagram post, he described these rumors as baseless and said that he is still fully ready to play for the country.
34 -year -old Shami made it clear that he is firmly associated with Team India. The new journey of India’s World Test Championship will begin with the five -Test series against England starting on 20 June. After the retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, there is a lot of curiosity about this series.
Shami replied
Some media reports claimed that the selection committee does not want to include Mohammed Shami in the Test team. After this, these things spread rapidly that Shami may be retiring from Test cricket.
However, Shami described all these news as false on Instagram. He wrote in his story, “Very good Maharaj. Count your job day, how much time is left. Sometimes say something good. Today’s most useless news, sorry.”

Performance in IPL became a matter of concern
Shami’s IPL 2025 has not been special. Playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad, he has taken just 6 wickets in 9 matches and his economy rate has been more than 11.
Indian fast bowlers are still trying to get their fitness back. For the last one year, he has been recovering from ankle injury. Despite this, given his experience, he can be selected for the tour of England, especially now when Rohit and Kohli are out of the Test.
Great return in Champions Trophy
Last year, Shami missed the T20 World Cup and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. However, he made a tremendous comeback in the Champions Trophy. In that tournament, he took 9 wickets in five matches and became the team’s most successful bowler with Varun Chakraborty.
Although his performance in IPL has been weak, his experience in a difficult tour like England can prove beneficial for India.
