Delhi: Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer created a special history on Sunday. The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 playoff teams have been finalized after Punjab Kings’ win over Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Delhi Capitals (DC) defeat to Gujarat Titans (GT). With this, Shreyas Iyer has become the first player who has brought three different teams to IPL playoffs.
Special achievement in the name of Taptan Shreyas
Iyer first captained Delhi Capitals in 2019 and took the team to the playoff after seven years. Then in 2020, he also took Delhi to the final. After this, Iyer joined Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and after 10 years brought the team to the finals again. He became the first player to bring two different teams to the IPL final.
In the IPL 2025 auction, Punjab Kings bought Iyer for Rs 26.75 crore and made captain. With this, he joined the list of few players who captained three different franchises. This list includes names like Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara, Steve Smith and Ajinkya Rahane.
Now Punjab will try to make it to the top 2. The team is currently in a strong position with 17 points. Recently, Punjab defeated Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur. The team scored 219 runs with the brilliant batting of Nehal Vadhera and Shashank Singh. Then Harpreet Brar broke the pace of Rajasthan with 3 wickets. With this victory, Punjab is third in the points table, while Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) also have 17 points, but it is behind due to net run rate.
Dhoni-could not do such a feat
The names of MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma, the two most successful captains in IPL history, are not such a record because both have been associated with the same team for a long time. Dhoni has won the title 5 times to Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Apart from this, he captained Rising Pune Supergiants in the year 2016, but that season team could not even qualify. At the same time, Rohit Sharma also won the title 5 times to Mumbai Indians and he has captained only Mi. This is the reason why Shreyas is ahead in the matter of qualifying two or more teams from these two successful captains.
