Delhi: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season was not good for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at all. The team started poorly and in the last it was at the bottom of the points table. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad also got injured in the middle season, causing further setback to the team. Mahendra Singh Dhoni had to captain again in his place.
Robin Uthappa gives opinion on Dhoni
Dhoni, 43, now play only in IPL. After the end of the season every year, the same question arises whether he will play or retire the next season. He has not yet said anything clear about IPL 2026.
However, Robin Uthappa, his old partner and playing together in CSK, feels that Dhoni’s playing will depend on his fitness. In a conversation on Giostar, Uthappa said that there is still a fire to play inside Dhoni.
Uthappa said, “Everything will depend on what condition they are able to keep their body. They still want to play. What he said after the match is clear that there is still hunger to win. Now they will go back and work on their fitness so that they can be ready for the next IPL.”
‘Will give information from a tweet or Instagram post’
Dhoni played all matches for CSK in 2025. He also faced more than the last two seasons this time. But many times questions were raised about not batting above them. Coach Stephen Fleming had said that the condition of Dhoni’s knees is not such that he should do the entire 20 overs wicketkeeping and bat long.
Uthappa is confident that Dhoni will take a decision only after thinking about the team. If they do not want to play the next season, then they will tell the team before the mini auction.
Uthappa said, “If this has not happened, perhaps one day there will be news from just one tweet or Instagram post. Like he retired from international cricket.”
