Former Indian cricketer and 2012 IPL winner Manoj Tiwari has questioned this decision. He said that Shubman Gill has not been able to confirm his place in the Test team, yet he was made captain. Tiwari said in a conversation on a cricbage, “As expected, Gill has been made the captain. But there is no player who is an automatic choice in the Test team. Gill was the second best option for the selectors at that time, so he was made captain.”

Manoj Tiwari also questioned the average of Gill’s Test career. He said, “If you see their average, it will be clear that their place is not sure in playing XI. Still he has been made captain, because the selectors had no better option than this.”
Gill’s test career so far
Gill made his Test debut against Australia in 2020. So far, he has played 32 Test matches, scoring 1893 runs. His average has been 35.05. He has scored 5 centuries and 7 half -centuries.
Recently he played another Test series against Australia, in which his performance was disappointing. He could only score 93 runs in 3 matches and he averaged 18.60. He could not score a single half -century in this series.
