Former Indian opener and currently head coach of Team India Gautam Gambhir has also expressed his opinion on the performance of the right-handed batsman. He said that Kohli is a world class cricketer and his hunger to score runs is the same as it was when he made his debut. Gambhir expressed confidence that Kohli will play big innings in the Test series against New Zealand and Australia.

Against New Zealand, Kohli has scored 866 runs in 11 Test matches at an average of 45.57, in which his best score is 211. He has also scored three centuries and three half-centuries during this period.
