Delhi: The Indian Premier League (IPL) occurred an interesting incident during the exciting match played on Tuesday in 2025. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batsman Jitesh Sharma left the runout, and the credit is being given to Rishabh Pant. But, the story is actually a bit different.
What is the whole matter?
This incident happened on the last ball of the 17th over of RCB’s innings. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) spinner Digvesh Rathi blown stumps after stopping bowling and bowling at non-strayers and after his bowling action. Jitesh was out of the crease, so the matter went to the third umpire. The replay clearly showed that Jitesh was outside the crease. There was a danger of out in such a situation.

But, as soon as ‘Not Out’ was shown on the screen, everyone was surprised. Rishabh Pant and Avesh Khan told the umpires standing on the field that they were withdrawing the appeal. Seeing this, Jitesh Sharma pulled Pant and hugged and said thank you. At that time, Jitesh was playing for 57 runs and the team needed 29 runs from 19 balls to win.
Former Indian wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta also said, “Jitesh was out, but Rishabh said, we do not want this wicket. So he was not given out.”
Jitesh was already not out
But, the real thing is that even if Pant does not take back the appeal, Jitesh is not considered out. According to the rules, if the bowler has completed his bowling action and after that he tries to run out the non-strayer, then he is not considered valid.
According to Rule 38.3.1 of MCC, the batsman can be run out until the bowler crosses the top point of his bowling action. The replay clearly showed that Rathi had completed his action, so this runout was not valid according to the rule.
Jitesh finally remained unbeaten after scoring 85 runs and RCB achieved a target of 228 runs in 18.4 overs. With this victory, RCB points have reached the second number in the table and will now face Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1.
