Delhi: The last league match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 was mixed for Rishabh Pant. On one hand, he made a brilliant comeback with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 118 off 61 balls and brought Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to a score of 227/3. On the other hand, his magnificent innings could not win the team. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) achieved this target in just 18.4 overs and won the match by six wickets.

BCCI imposed a fine

Apart from this defeat, Pant got more shock. BCCI found him guilty of violation of the Code of Conduct of IPL and fined him ₹ 30 lakh. The reason was – slow over rate.

This was the third time when Lucknow Super Giants could not complete their overs on time in this season. So this time captain Pant was fined ₹ 30 lakh. Usually, for the first time this happens, the captain is fined ₹ 12 lakh, but due to the third time this amount was increased.

The statement issued by BCCI on Wednesday said, “Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant has been fined for not completing the over in the time fixed by his team. This is the third such case of his team in this season.”

All the other players of the team (including impact player) have also been fined ₹ 12 lakh or 50% of their match fees (whichever less).

Rishabh’s century went in vain

RCB had to win this match so that they would not have to face Mumbai Indians in the eliminator. The team chased the target very easily and for the first time in IPL history, all became the team winning the match.

This century of Rishabh Pant may be a sign of the return of his form, but the result of the match and the fine has increased his difficulties. Now it has to be seen how he makes a comeback in the next season.
