Delhi: Famous cricket historian, writer and television personality Dr. Nauman Niaz has sent a legal notice to former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar for defamation and tarnishing image. Dr. Niaz has also been the sports director of the government TV channel Pakistan Television (PTV). He has sent this notice through his lawyer.
The dispute began when Shoaib Akhtar addressed Dr. Niaz as a “kit man” in a podcast. Shoaib claimed, “Dr. Nauman used to be with us in the team and used to pick up our bags.” He also said, “The role of coaches and managers in the team was not important, and Dr. Nauman used to work to carry our goods. I do not know what else he did.”
Let us tell you that during the international career of Dr. Niaz, Shoaib Akhtar, on some foreign tours, the Pakistan team was associated with the team as data analyst.
In response to this statement, Dr. Nauman has sent a legal notice demanding unconditional apology within 14 days, otherwise he has warned of legal action and compensation.
Significantly, there has been a conflict between the two before. In a live television show during Imran Khan’s government, Dr. Niaz asked Shoaib Akhtar to leave the studio, which happened after a small controversy. However, after the intervention of a minister later, Dr. Niaz apologized to Shoaib and the matter was resolved between the two.
