Delhi: Veteran batsman KL Rahul will play the second informal Test against England Lions from India A for the preparation for the Test series against England. The match will be played from 6 to 9 June at the County Ground in Northampton.
Rahul had sought permission from BCCI to leave England early, so that he could play practice matches under the circumstances of England instead of limited training in the rain of Mumbai. According to a report by the Times of India, it is clear from Rahul’s decision that he wants to keep himself fully prepared in the upcoming Test series. It is believed that he will start the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal.
At the same time, India’s new Test captain Shubman Gill and young batsman B Sai Sudarshan have been rested from the second informal Test. Both these players will now leave for England on 6 June with the Indian Test team. According to the board, both players are training red ball after the recently ended IPL session and now they need some rest and recovery.
After reaching England, the team will get a chance to play a four-day Intra-Squad practice match in Bekanham from June 16, which will help in preparing the main series.
Shubman Gill, who has recently been appointed as the new Test captain of India after Rohit Sharma’s retirement from Test cricket, will lead the team for the first time in this series. He will become the 37th Test captain of India. Earlier, Gill captained India in T20 and won four out of five matches against Zimbabwe.
Gill will soon hold a press conference with India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir in Mumbai, in which the series related preparations and approaches will be discussed.
