Delhi: The first day’s play of the ongoing first Test match between India and New Zealand at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru was canceled without a single ball being bowled due to rain. On the second day, Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat first, but the entire team was reduced to just 46 runs. This is India’s lowest score in Test cricket on its own soil.

Before this innings, India’s lowest score on home soil was 75 runs, which was made against West Indies in Delhi in 1987. This is India’s third lowest score in Test history. Earlier in 2020, the Indian team was all out for 36 runs against Australia and in 1974 for 42 runs against England. Both the matches were played in Adelaide and Lord’s respectively. This is the third time that India has been all out on a score less than 50.

Rishabh Pant (20) scored the most runs for India. Virat Kohli, Sarfaraz Khan, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin were out without opening the account. For New Zealand, Matt Henry took 5 wickets, while William O’Rourke took 4 and Tim Southee took 1 wicket. The New Zealand team did not use its spinners. As soon as Rohit Sharma (2) was out early in the Indian innings, there was a flurry of wickets and the team kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
