Delhi: In the final match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar fiercely reprimanded the umpires on a dangerous running move of Virat Kohli. The match was being played between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Batting first, RCB’s team was struggling to score runs and it was difficult to get fours and sixes. In such a situation, Kohli started trying to take two and three runs.

When Yuzvendra Chahal was bowling in the 12th over of RCB’s innings, Kohli took a long run on the fifth ball. He rushed the ball to the long-on, running and immediately called to take two runs. However, during this time, Sunil Gavaskar, who was doing commentary, expressed his displeasure at Kohli running on the straight pitch. He said that this dangerous running move of Kohli can spoil the pitch, which can cause Punjab Kings in the second innings. He also lashed out at the umpires that he did not say anything to Kohli for this act.
Gavaskar said, “Kohli is a very fast runner. As soon as he hit the ball, he knew that it would be two runs. But he ran directly from the middle of the pitch. The umpire will never say anything to him. See, he is running from the middle of the pitch. Punjab Kings have to bat on this pitch in the second innings.”
