Delhi: England fast bowler Bridan Cars Has revealed that there was a time when he had even considered a finger of his foot to get rid of his painful injury.
Wounds caused by fast bowling
The 29 -year -old cars are going to be counted among the rapid emerging bowlers in England’s Test team. He has taken 27 wickets in only 5 Tests so far and has also been selected in the team for the first Test starting in Leeds against India from June 20. Cars suffered this injury due to repeated front foot landing on the second finger of his left leg. This led to deep and infected wounds in his finger.
Injury rescued the Champions Trophy
During the ODI series on the tour of India, this problem increased further, due to which he had to be eliminated from the Champions Trophy. He stayed away from the ground for about three months.
Cars started thinking of getting finger cut
In an interview to the BBC, Cars said, “There came a time when I used to think before sleeping that I might get my second finger removed. But the medical staff said that it is necessary for the balance, then that idea was rejected soon.”
Unique treatment of problem adopted
Cars adopted some unique ways to get relief from pain. He started wearing thin shoes, used special insolles and even hole in the shoes to reduce the pressure on the affected finger.
Constant antibiotics
He said that for six to eight weeks, he had to take three to four types of antibiotics. The wound had become so deep that he had to give time to recover and heal.
Talk to plastic surgery
After returning early from the Champions Trophy, there was a discussion on his plastic surgery, but in the end rest proved to be the best cure.
Great performance on return
Cars returned to first-class cricket in late May and played all three ODIs against the West Indies, where they played an important role in England’s 3–0 win.
Finger caused a joke in the dressing room
Cars laughed at this strange injury and said, “I no longer talk about my finger in the dressing room, because everyone is upset with him. My second finger has now become a part of the joke.”
