Delhi: Former Australian cricketer Mitchell Johnson has questioned the decision of fast bowler Josh Hazelwood in which he took part in the last phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL) despite fitness issues. Hazelwood played an important role for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), who won the IPL title for the first time by defeating Punjab Kings by 6 runs.
Playing IPL before WTC final?
Hazelwood returned to the IPL despite injury, but due to this he did not prepare the World Test Championship (WTC) final properly. Johnson wrote in his column that Hazelwood’s fitness has already been a matter of concern and many people did not feel right to prioritize IPL.
Perfume performance in finals
In the WTC final, Hazelwood took just 2 wickets for 85 runs in 34 overs. He did not take wickets on important occasions, which led Australia to face defeat.
Johnson’s concern over dependence on ‘Big Four’
Mitchell Johnson believes that the time has come that Australia should stop completely depending on its experienced bowlers – Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazelwood, Pat Cummins and Nathan Lion. He said that if these players remain in the team for big occasions only like Ashes, then this thinking can be wrong. Team management should trust future players and give opportunities to new players.
WTC final for Australia a blow
Australia lost by 5 wickets against South Africa in the WTC final. This was the fourth time in the history of Australia when he became runners -up in an ICC final. Chasing 282 runs in the fourth innings, Aidon Markram scored 136 and Temba Bavuma scored 66 runs for South Africa and gave the team a historic victory.
New players will get a chance in West Indies tour
Now Australia’s team will go on the West Indies tour from 25 June. This tour can be the right opportunity for new players to try and create a strong team for the future.
