Delhi: Team India star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has expressed his opinion about Test cricket. Bumrah believes that young players must give an opportunity in Test cricket, as this is the most prestigious and respectable format of the game. He said that although every player has his own priorities, good performance in Test cricket gives respect globally.
During a conversation with Dinesh Karthik on Sky Sports, when Bumrah was asked if young fast bowlers are not taking interest in Test cricket, he said, “Sometimes it is better that players do not play Test cricket, if their body is not able to fulfill its demand. If you want to be connected, then it can also be a sensible decision. “
Test cricket is gold standard
Bumrah further said, “I respect everyone’s decisions, but for me Test cricket is the format that I assess myself. This is gold standard for me. I have grown up to see this since childhood. In today’s time, forms like T20 League and ODIs have come and things have changed, but we are not the most pure and challenging standards today.”
Supporting Virat Kohli’s statement, he said, “As Virat said, if you want to get respect all over the world, then Test cricket is his way. If someone likes a fast game, then T20 and ODIs can be better options, but the satisfaction and pride in the test is not anywhere else.”
Jasprit Bumrah is one of the few players of the current era who has proved himself in all three formats of cricket. He has played 45 Test matches for India so far, taking 205 wickets. His Test bowling average is only 19.4, which is the best among any bowler taking 200 or more wickets.
Bumrah’s statement came at a time when T20 leagues are being worried about Test cricket due to the increasing popularity of T20 Leagues. In such a situation, the support of a legendary player like him is going to give new energy to the Test format.
