Delhi: England’s young off -spinner Shoaib Bashir has praised Test team captain Ben Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum. Bashir said that the support and trust of these two have given them a chance to feel comfortable in international cricket.
Only after the experience of only a few first class matches, the pair of Stokes-Maculam gave him a chance in the Test team. 21 -year -old Bashir has since made his regular place in the England Test team and is now playing the role of the lead spinner of the team.
In a conversation with Sky Sports ahead of the five -Test series against India starting from June 20, Bashir said, “Yes, 100 percent… badges and stoxies fully support you. I think the same thing brings out the best out of you. I feel very comfortable in that environment, and when this happens, it becomes natural for me to perform.”
He further said, “Every aspect is scope for improvement, but the biggest focus for me is on my consistency (continuity). I am working hard on it, as the experience grows, it is expected that it will also improve.”

Bashir also talked about his future in county cricket. Currently he plays for the Samarset, but he has been sent to Glamorgan for more match experience. He said that he wants more regularity in first class cricket, so that he can get better.
Bashir has taken 58 wickets in 16 Tests so far. He also performed brilliantly in his last series against India, where he took 17 wickets at an average of 33.35 in the 2024 tour and also took five wickets twice.
