Delhi: India is going to start a new chapter in Test cricket, and this time the team is commanded by young batsman Shubman Gill. In such a situation, Ravi Shastri, former head coach of Team India, has given necessary suggestions to Gill. Talking in the ICC review, Shastri advised Gill to maintain restraint and patience.
Shastri said, “I think they should take time. It will not be easy. He has been assigned a very difficult task, and that is the captaincy of India’s Test team on a tour of England.”
Significantly, after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retired from Test cricket recently, Gill has been given the captaincy of the young Indian team. India will start the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle with this five-match Test series starting in Headingley from June 20.
However, Shubman Gill’s test record cannot be said to be very impressive yet. He has so far scored 1,893 runs in 32 Tests at an average of 35.05, but Shastri believes that this tour will be an important stage in Gill’s captaincy career.
He further said, “It is never easy, but I think he will learn a lot from this experience.”
