Delhi: The second match of the ongoing five -Test series against England will be played in Azbaston from 2 July today. Before this match, the Indian team has been advised by BCCI to stay in the room in Birmingham. This step was taken when a suspicious package was reported near the Centenary Square.
BCCI gave information
A source associated with BCCI said that the players were asked not to leave after the social media post of Birmingham City Center Police. In the time received between the first and second Tests, the players and staff were roaming around Broad Street.
The Birmingham police wrote in its post, “We have siege a suspicious package in the Centenary Square. We were informed before three in the afternoon. Many buildings have been vacated as a precaution. Please stay away from this area.”
Eight players of the team, including captain Shubman Gill, reached Edgbaston for practice that day. The remaining ten players got rest day. After about an hour, the police removed the siege.
India awaits victory
If we talk about the current series, then India has lost in the first Test. In the Handingley Test, England won the target of 371 runs on the last day and won by five wickets. India had a slight lead of six runs in the first innings but lost the team due to leaving the catch and negligence in bowling.
Now India has to face the challenge in Edgbaston Test where its record was not good. India has played eight Tests here, out of which seven have faced defeat. Under the captaincy of Shubman Gill, the team will now try to return to the remaining four Tests.
