Delhi: Indian Test captain Shubman Gill made history on the first day of the second match of the India vs England Test series on Wednesday. He has become the ninth foreign captain and second Indian to score a century in the first two matches of a Test series in England. He scored an unbeaten 114 in Edgbaston after 147 runs in Headingley.
Shubman Gill made records
This is Gill’s debut as a Test captain and he has won everyone’s heart by performing brilliantly in the first matches. Earlier, veterans like Don Bradman, Gary Sobers and Mohammad Azharuddin have done these acts. Gill handled the team in the first Test and brought India to a strong position from a difficult situation in the second Test.
Gill joined the list of legendary captains
Gill is just the fourth Indian captain, who scored a century in his first two Tests. Before him, Virat Kohli, Vijay Hazare and Sunil Gavaskar did this. He is only the second Indian captain to score a century in Edgbaston. Earlier, Virat Kohli scored a century here.
Gill has now joined the list of batsmen like Mohammad Azharuddin, Dilip Vengsarkar and Rahul Dravid, who have scored centuries in three consecutive Tests against England. Along with becoming captain, he has also completed 2,000 Test runs.
Shubman handled the team in difficult times. When India lost two wickets at 95, they shared 66 runs with Yashasvi Jaiswal and then an unbeaten 99 with Ravindra Jadeja. His innings was not only full of records, but the responsibility of a young captain was also clearly seen in it.
