5 officers, including HCA president, in custody as CID takes action on SRH’s complaint: IPL 2025 controversy

Delhi: The Indian Premier League (IPL) has passed on 2025, but a serious controversy related to it is still in the headlines. There is now a new twist in this case, where Telangana’s Crime Investigation Branch i.e., CID has taken five officials including Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) President A Jagan Mohan Rao.

Interrogation on complaint of Sunrisers Hyderabad

CID has detained these officers for questioning in connection with the allegations made by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) franchise. It is alleged that during the IPL 2025, HCA blackmailed the franchise with an additional free pass. Officers taken into custody include HCA President A Jagan Mohan Rao, Treasurer C Srinivas Rao, CEO Sunil Kanta, General Secretary Rajendra Yadav and his wife G Kavita.

Investigation started on Chief Minister’s orders

Seeing the seriousness of the matter, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy ordered an inquiry. The investigation started on the basis of the petition filed by Sunrisers Hyderabad, in which a complaint was made of HCA’s alleged blackmailing attitude. The franchise had also demanded the BCCI and the ICC Governing Council to intervene on the issue. However, HCA has categorically denied all these allegations.

What is the whole matter?

About three months ago, Sunrisers Hyderabad alleged that HCA was repeatedly pressurizing the franchise by demanding additional free pass. The team management warned that if this attitude continued, they would be forced to move their domestic matches to another state.

Subsequently, in the meeting between the two sides, it was agreed to continue the allocation of 3900 free passes. But, in view of the seriousness of the case, the investigation is still going on, and in the coming days, there is a possibility of more action on it.
