Vammag vice president Rajiv Shukla said that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma themselves retired from Test cricket. The board did not put any pressure on them. The contribution of both players will always be remembered. He will still remain part of the team in ODI cricket.
Delhi: Two big cricket stars of India, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, recently said goodbye to Test cricket. After this decision, many types of rumors started spreading that perhaps BCCI had pressurized both the players. However, BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla has made it clear that this decision was completely private of both the players.
Rajiv Shukla gave a statement on Virat-Rohit
Rajiv Shukla while talking to ANI said that BCCI never asked any player for retirement.
He said, “We all will feel the lack of Rohit and Virat, but they took this decision themselves. BCCI does not tell a player when he has to retire. It is a complete player’s decision. We are proud of them and we consider them a great batsman. The good thing is that they are still playing in ODIs.”
It was only after India’s 4–1 defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia that perhaps the pressure of retirement was made on senior players to give young players a chance in the Test team. But, Shukla told all these things a lie and made it clear that both the players decided this without any pressure.
Team India led by Shubman Gill
Now a new round has started in the Test team. Shubman Gill has been given the captaincy and he is leading the team in the series against England. However, India suffered defeat in Lord’s Test and the team is currently trailing 2–1.
The BCCI once again reiterated that the contribution made by Kohli and Rohit to Indian cricket can never be forgotten. He will definitely feel lacking in Test cricket, but it will be a pleasure for the fans to see him playing in ODIs.
