Delhi: The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) held its annual general meeting (AGM) in Dhaka on Thursday. Representatives of all member countries attended this meeting. The biggest decision in the meeting was that cricket will be included in the 2026 Asian Games to be held in Japan.
In the official information given by ACC, it was told that 10 male and 8 women teams of Asia will participate in this game. These teams will be selected on the basis of their current ranking.
The meeting was chaired by ACC chief and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi. BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla Virchuly joined India. Naqvi thanked Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Aminul Islam and said that for the first time AGM is a special occasion in Dhaka.
During the meeting, three new countries Mongolia, Uzbekistan and the Philippines were included in the ACC. It is clear from this that ACC now wants to expand cricket in new areas as well. All member countries pledged to promote Asian cricket and give priority to cricket.
Discussion on Asia Cup 2025 also
After the meeting, ACC President Mohsin Naqvi also gave information about the Asia Cup 2025. He said that the tournament will be announced soon and talks are going on with BCCI.
According to PTI, this tournament can be held in September 2025. It is likely to be done in UAE. The matches between India and Pakistan are almost certain and the two teams may face face to face twice. The tournament will be played in T20 format and can run for more than two weeks.
This meeting of ACC is considered a big step towards the future of Asian cricket. It is clear that in the coming time, cricket will get a boost in more international forums.
