Delhi: Next month, the Indian team will tour Australia, where there will be a series of five test matches between the two teams under the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. On Friday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced its team for this tour, in which the name of veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami was not included. Now Shami has given his reaction on this decision.
34-year-old Shami, who is currently recovering from surgery, shared a video on social media on Sunday, in which he is seen working out in the gym. In the caption, he apologized to BCCI and the fans and wrote that he is working hard to improve his bowling fitness. He further said that he is busy preparing himself for domestic red ball cricket and will return to the field soon.
Before the announcement of the team, captain Rohit Sharma also talked about Shami’s condition during the Pune Test. He had said that he does not want to take Shami to Australia, because his injury has not completely healed and his recovery is ongoing. Rohit said that he wants Shami to return only when he is completely fit.
Will play two matches for Bengal
Shami was last seen playing in the ODI World Cup 2023, where he made the record of taking the most wickets by taking 24 wickets in seven matches. After this he had to take rest due to injury. Recently, Bengal coach Lakshmi Ratan Shukla told that Shami will play two matches for Bengal in Ranji Trophy 2024-25, which has opened the way for his return to domestic cricket.
