Five-time champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), are one of the most successful franchises in the history of the Indian Premier League, but the last season was not very good for them. In 2022, Ravindra Jadeja was appointed as the new captain in place of MS Dhoni, but the performance of the franchise was very poor that season. Jadeja left the team midway through the season and then Dhoni was reinstated as captain, but it did not help as CSK finished ninth in the points table.

Under Dhoni’s captaincy, CSK won the IPL in 2023 and it was their fifth title. They were on the verge of defeat in the final against Gujarat Titans, but there again Ravindra Jadeja gave them the trophy by hitting a six and a four in the last two balls. The following year, Dhoni once again resigned from the captaincy and CSK failed to qualify for the playoffs for the second time in three years.
