IPL 2025 mega auction will be held on 24 and 25 November in Jeddah, the capital of Saudi Arabia.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the dates of IPL 2025 mega auction on Tuesday. Mega auction will be organized in Jeddah, the capital of Saudi Arabia on 24 and 25 November. 1574 players (1165 Indians, 409 foreigners) have registered for the upcoming mega auction. The list includes 320 capped, 1,224 uncapped and 30 players from associate countries.

Only a maximum of 204 players can be bid in the upcoming mega auction, out of which 70 can be foreign players. In this auction, 10 franchises will have Rs 641.5 crore to spend. Each franchise can have a maximum of 25 players in its squad. Recently, all the franchises retained a total of 46 players by spending Rs 558.5 crore. This year a franchise has been given a purse of Rs 120 crore.

46 players retained before IPL 2025 Mega Auction

South Africa’s Heinrich Klaasen was the most expensive player in retention. He was retained by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for Rs 23 crore. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) retained Virat Kohli for Rs 21 crore. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) paid Nicholas Pooran Rs 21 crore. Kohli and Puran were the joint second most expensive retentions. Mumbai Indians (MI) retained Rohit Sharma for Rs 16.30 crore.

Talking about the auction, Punjab Kings (PBKS) will enter the auction with the highest budget. At present Rs 110.5 crore are left in his purse. Punjab spent only Rs 9.5 crore in retention and retained two players. Before the auction, Punjab retained Shashank Singh for Rs 5.5 crore and Prabhsimran Singh for Rs 4 crore. Punjab will now have four RTM cards in the auction. A team could retain only a maximum of 6 players. Teams that have retained less than 6 players will get a chance to use RTM cards in the auction.

Players like Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul will be included in Mega Auction

In the mega auction, bids will be placed on star players like wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer. Pant was the captain of Delhi Capitals (DC), Rahul LSG while Iyer was the captain of KKR. It was under the captaincy of Iyer that KKR ended the trophy drought last year. Fast bowlers Arshdeep Singh and Mohammad Siraj will also enter the auction. This is the second consecutive year where the auction is being organized abroad. The IPL 2024 auction was held in Dubai.
