Former Delhi Capitals assistant coach Mohammad Kaif took aim at Prithvi Shaw after he remained unsold in the Indian Premier League mega auction on Monday, November 25. Shaw, who was once considered the next superstar of Indian cricket, came into the auction with a base price of Rs 75 lakh but still no franchise showed interest in him.

Speaking on Jio Cinema, Kaif said that Prithvi Shaw should be ashamed of himself that he did not find any buyer in the mega-auction. Kaif narrated his experience with Shaw during his coaching days at Delhi Capitals and said that Shaw is a player who cannot complain about not getting a chance in the playing eleven.

Mohammad Kaif gave a big statement regarding Prithvi Shaw

Mohammad Kaif said, “Delhi backed Prithvi Shaw a lot because the expectation was that he is a powerplay player. He can also hit 6 fours in one over. He also killed Shivam Mavi. He had a lot of potential. They were backed a lot in the hope that if this works today we will win the match. We sat in meetings several times, in which the decision was taken whether Prithvi Shaw should be dropped or kept in the playing eleven. It was decided at night whether to drop him, but as soon as the morning came he was in the team.”

Kaif said, “Before the toss we used to say that we want this player in the playing eleven. At night we are denying that we don’t want this player who is not scoring runs and is a flop, but in the morning he was in the team because we thought that if he does well today then we will win the match. In the course of Maybe…Maybe…he got many opportunities, but he could not take advantage.

Many players do not get opportunities, but they got them and they could not perform and now they have to accept that their form is bad. They will have to think about their game. Teams have already moved on from him. It is a matter of great embarrassment for them that no one bought them in the auction. Now he will have to score runs consistently in domestic cricket.”
