Delhi: In the two days of IPL Auction 2025, where expensive and cheaply acquired players were in the news, scams also took place. Despite having a lot of players in front and money nearby, some team’s think tank committed a scam and either recruited an unbalanced team or recruited a player who was afraid that he might prove to be just a tourist in the team. Let us see such scams:
IPL 2025: The tournament will start from March 14, the final will be played in Kolkata on May 25!
Lucknow Super Giants: The blame for poor procurement will fall on this team’s think tank. They could not form a better and solid opening pair and would be forced to make do with Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh. There are many uncapped players in the batting reserve and in case of injury, they do not have any big Indian option. Couldn’t even fill its foreign quota completely.
Mumbai Indians: Here also the think tank made a mistake. Wicketkeeper-batsman not decided in their line-up. If Rickelton is played at the top, then there is probably no place for Will Jack in the team. If Jack is allowed to open, then either Minj or Srijit will have to be used as the wicketkeeper-batsman. They also have less back-up options if the Indian batsman or fast bowler is not fit and it will affect the team.
Joffra Archer (Rajasthan Royals): Despite having a very poor and unreliable track record in terms of fitness, Rs 12.5 crores were spent on him. Not only this, by buying him (spinner Wanindu Hasaranga had to be bought) the team was out of the race to buy a top batsman. However, buying him was in his plan. Archer’s IPL record is 48 wickets in 40 matches.
Deepak Hooda and Vijay Shankar (Chennai Super Kings): What’s interesting is that both of these wrong buys were made with someone planning to bat at No. 5. Both Deepak Hooda and Vijay Shankar are such players whose performance was neither consistent nor showed their true talent. Now he has a chance to revive his IPL career once again. Deepak’s playing for 4 teams in IPL till now is proof of this.
Jacob Bethel (Royal Challengers Bangalore): Well, Jacob is very much talked about in English cricket, but selecting such a player every time has cost the team dearly in the past too. He is also being counted in the playing eleven from now on. Till now no one else has selected him in T20 league cricket outside England.
Ajinkya Rahane and Manish Pandey (Kolkata Knight Riders): Although it did not cost much to buy Ajinkya Rahane (Rs 1.5 crore) and Manish Pandey (Rs 75 lakh), what use will these two be to the team? Both have left their better times behind. After spending Rs 23.75 crore on Venkatesh Iyer and bringing back Nitish Rana, they lost their attempt to strengthen the middle order and were forced to reunite with Manish Pandey and Ajinkya Rahane. Now the team’s concern is how to make the best use of either Pandey or Rahane as either one of them is expected to join the playing team. Rahane playing 6 and Pandey playing 7 for the IPL team is proof of the lack of consistency in their performance.
