Punjab Kings have bought players like Marcus Stoinis, Shreyas Iyer and Yuzvendra Chahal in the IPL 2025 mega auction.
IPL 2025, PBKS Playing XI: The IPL 2025 mega auction took place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Punjab Kings had entered the auction with a purse of Rs 110.5 crore. The team prepared a strong squad by purchasing players like Shreyas Iyer, Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal, Marcus Stoinis, Nehal Vadhera and Glenn Maxwell.
Punjab Kings have not been able to win even a single title in IPL till now. The franchise has won 18 and lost 24 out of 42 matches played in the last three seasons. Punjab has prepared a new team for the upcoming season, it remains to be seen how the team performs under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer. Prabhsimran Singh and Josh English can be seen opening for Punjab Kings in the IPL 2025 season. Prabhsimran Singh had a great season last season, scoring 334 runs in 14 matches for Punjab at an average of 23.86 and a strike rate of 156.81. Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Inglis is set to make his IPL debut in the upcoming season. He has scored 706 runs for Australia in 29 T20 matches at an average of 30.7 and strike rate of 156.89.
Middle order-
The middle order of Punjab Kings looks excellent with the presence of Shreyas Iyer, Nehal Vadhera, and Glenn Maxwell. Punjab bought IPL winning captain Shreyas Iyer in the auction for Rs 26.75 crore. Shreyas is the second most expensive player in IPL history. He will also be seen captaining Punjab in the upcoming season. Talking about Shreyas’s performance last season, he scored 351 runs in 14 matches for Kolkata Knight Riders at an average of 39 and a strike rate of 146.86.
Young player Nehal Wadhera scored 109 runs in 6 matches for Mumbai Indians last season at an average of 18.17. Glenn Maxwell’s past was nothing special, he took 52 runs in 10 matches and 6 wickets at an economy of 8.06.
Finisher-
Marcus Stoinis, Shashank Singh and Marco Jensen will be seen playing the role of finishers for Punjab. Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis had a great season last season, scoring 388 runs in 4 matches at an average of 32.33 and taking 4 wickets at an economy of 9 for Lucknow Super Giants.
Talking about the performance of Shashank Singh, he scored 354 runs for Punjab in 14 matches at an average of 44.25 and strike rate of 164.65. Apart from taking wickets in the powerplay, Marco Jensen also has the ability to hit big sixes in the last overs. Last season he did not play many matches.
Bowling Unit-
Punjab Kings have a very good bowling unit with the presence of Marco Jensen, Yash Thakur, Yuzvendra Chahal and Arshdeep Singh. Yuji Chahal will handle the spin department and Jensen, Yash Thakur, Arshdeep Singh are responsible for the fast bowling department.
Last season, Chahal took 18 wickets in 15 matches at an economy of 9.41 and Arshdeep Singh took 19 wickets at an economy of 10.03. Whereas, Yash Thakur had taken 11 wickets in 10 matches with an economy of 11.32.
