The management of Lucknow Super Giants was not happy with KL Rahul’s captaincy in the last few IPL seasons and due to this the team released him before the upcoming season. They spent a lot of money in the auction and included some marquee players like Rishabh Pant and Mitchell Marsh in the team. However, after Rahul’s departure, it was not clear who would captain LSG in IPL 2025.
The franchise had retained Nicholas Pooran for a whopping price of Rs 21 crore and he was considered one of the favorites before the auction. But after the auction, Pant is at the forefront of the race to become the captain. LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka believes that the franchise has assembled a great squad from the IPL 2025 mega auction. He told that at present there are four leaders in Lucknow Super Giants.
LSG owner Goenka mentioned wicketkeepers Rishabh Pant, Nicholas Pooran, Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh. In this way he counted four leaders in the team. Three of these players were bought by LSG in the mega auction and Nicholas Pooran was already retained by the team.
Sanjeev Goenka gave a big statement regarding IPL 2025 auction
On Aakash Chopra’s YouTube channel, Sanjeev Goenka said, “Our gut feeling is that our auction was excellent. Our focus was that our middle order and finishing should be very strong. Our order from No. 3 to No. 8 is very strong. Our second desire was to go with a completely Indian fast bowling attack instead of international fast bowlers and explosive international batsmen. “Now we have a combination of both.”
He further said, “We have four leaders in our team – Rishabh Pant, Nicholas Pooran, Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh. So it becomes a very strong leadership pool of intelligence and ideas and strategy. They are all guys who can play with a winning mentality. Rishabh has the hunger and passion to win. Therefore a good team has been formed. We are happy. Overall, the balance is fine and no team is 10 out of 10.”
