Delhi: The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has extended the contract of its national team head coach Jonathan Trott for one year, keeping him in the role till 2025. This announcement has been made a few months before the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, in which Afghanistan will participate for the first time.

43-year-old former England batsman Jonathan Trott took over as the head coach of Afghanistan in July 2022. Under his leadership the team has performed brilliantly in international cricket. Issuing a statement, the board said, “The Afghanistan Cricket Board wishes Trott all the best for the next year. He is committed to taking Afghanistan cricket to new heights on the global stage.”
Under Trott’s guidance, Afghanistan played 34 ODI matches, winning 14 of them. Similarly, the team was victorious in 20 out of 44 T20 International matches.
Afghanistan team will play bilateral series against Zimbabwe
At present, the Afghanistan team is on Zimbabwe tour, where it will play three T20, three ODI and one Test match. However, Trott will not be available for the T20 and Test series due to personal reasons and will only guide the team in the ODI series. In his absence, Hamid Hasan will take over as the head coach and Navroz Mangal will take over as the assistant coach.
