Delhi: A five-match test series is going on between India and Australia. India won the first test, while Australia won the second test by 10 wickets. In the second Test played in Adelaide, there was a heated argument between Indian fast bowler Mohammad Siraj and Australian batsman Travis Head. Now the statement of former Australian captain Ricky Ponting has come on this.
Pakistan’s fast bowler Haris Rauf won this big ICC award by defeating Jasprit Bumrah.
Ponting believes that the dispute between Siraj and Head was without any malice and it was an accidental incident. After this controversy, action was also taken against both the players. Siraj was fined 20 percent of his match fee, while Head was reprimanded and both were given one demerit point each by the ICC.
Ponting gave his opinion on the controversy
Ricky Ponting said on this incident, “It was all accidental and there was no malice of any kind in the beginning. He told that after getting out, Head had told Siraj, “Well ball”, but Siraj termed it as false and said that Head had abused him.
Ponting further said, “I know Travis said that he had called a well ball, but Siraj was not happy after hitting a six at deep backward square. I am sure Rohit will expect a similar response from his fast bowlers, especially when they are under pressure and shots are fired against them.”
There was controversy during Adelaide Test
This dispute between Siraj and Head took place during the pink ball test match. In the 82nd over of Australia’s first innings, Head hit a six over deep square leg off Siraj’s ball, then on the very next ball Siraj bowled Head and pointed towards the dressing room. During this, some words were exchanged between the two, but this was not recorded in the stump mic.
