Delhi: India’s great spin bowler R Ashwin suddenly announced his retirement from international cricket on Wednesday. He made this announcement after the Gabba Test draw between India and Australia. There was an emotional conversation between Ashwin and Virat Kohli at Gabba, during which Ashwin had tears in his eyes. Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali gave his opinion on Ashwin’s retirement.

Punished for not following the rules, Sanju Samson’s card removed from the team

He believed that Ashwin should not have retired in the middle of the Australia Test series. Basit also said that if Virat Kohli had been the captain, Ashwin would not have taken this step. He also believes that there is something deep hidden behind Ashwin’s tears.

Ashwin’s retirement came before time

Basit Ali said on his YouTube channel, “Ashwin’s retirement was premature. He should have retired after playing the entire Test series against Australia, especially when he was needed in the Sydney Test. Captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir should have explained to Ashwin that he should not take retirement yet.”

Ashwin is the series winner

He also said, “Ashwin is not a match winner but a series winner. He has been a player who has won many series. In cricket, the player who wins the match and the player who wins the series is different. Ashwin won many important series and is counted among the best players of Test cricket.”

Ashwin’s retirement after Gaba test

R Ashwin said in the press conference after the Gabba Test, “This is my last day as a cricketer of the Indian team.” After this he did not take any questions and announced his retirement. He looked very emotional in the dressing room. He said, “From the time I came to Australia in 2011-12 till now, I have seen a lot of changes. Today that time has come for me too.” Ashwin has taken a total of 537 wickets in 106 Test matches and has taken 765 international wickets.
